Christopher Sergel's adaptation of To Kill a Mockingbird presents itself as a memory play. Jean Louise Finch, narrator in the present day, recalls ephemeral moments and scenes from her childhood which are further punctuated by individual dramatic events: the killing of the mad dog, the scene at the jailhouse, the trail, among others. there are two or more plays here - a period setting complemented by transitional stories, images, and pictures of her past which suggest a theatrical style beyond traditional realism. This production emphasized as well the forgotten voices of the Robinsons as members of the African-American community who are merely witnesses or victims in Harper Lee's novel.
